Nimbin Aquarius - may the long time sun shine upon you

Aquarius Archives is a working group of the Nimbin Aquarius Foundation Inc. (NAFI), a community grass-roots not-for-profit registered charity since 1993. NAFI’s primary mission is “to operate for the public benefit to advance the arts”, and our secondary mission is “to raise funds to direct towards” objectives that include “the collection and display of archival material”.

The first vision for the 1973 Nimbin Aquarius Festival was “that the style of the festival, the structures and forms of the community that make up the festival itself be an artform”. That vision still lives today, with the same community still thriving in Nimbin village, a living artform renowned around Australia and the world.

Aquarius Archives is dedicated to looking after and sharing the unique and significant cultural heritage of Nimbin. We aim to provide safe and secure access to the collections, including meaningful exhibitions and events to celebrate Aquarius values and lifestyle with the Nimbin community and the world. We’ve been gathering together side-by-side with the Bundalung Community since the 1973 Festival, and honour our many shared stories together.

Each member of the Aquarius Archives is an artist in their own right, with the passion, drive and understanding necessary to keep our rich and diverse stories and archives alive. We thrive in the generative synergy between best practice archiving and participatory creative practice, with the community.

We invite the community to collaborate with the Working Group with events listed on this website, in the Nimbin Good Times newspaper and on NimFM radio station.
